Puebla is a big city, it was founded by the Spaniards in 1531, there are about 2 million people and there are bad neighborhoods as well as wealthy neighborhoods. It has a lot of history, legends and beautiful buildings. It is also a metropolitan area with a city that has a pyramid and has been populated for centuries named Cholula. The food is one of the most varied and rich in the country, please bring tums and try as much as you can. And our traditional dress China Poblana is considered the national dress.

Use common sense and don't walk by yourself at night, also it's easy to see where downtown begins to be ugly, and neighborhoods on the outskirts are the poorest. But mostly the problem would be get robbed, not raped or murder.

Murders and also rape are mostly among families ughhh and in lower income families, they have nothing to do with tourists. I found varied information but only in Spanish.

To be safer use only taxis that you call from a "sitio" or that the hotel calls for you. Don't flash big jewelry, cameras or your ipod around. Know where you are going and look confident.

Yes, Puebla is safe. You have less of a chance of being a victim of crime there than in the U.S. The media has many Americans thinking that all of Mexico is a battleground...simply not true. There are over 1.2 million Americans and Canadians living in Mexico perfectly safely. I live in the state of Veracruz..couple of hours from Puebla .. I am a single American woman , know many others, go anywhere I want in perfect safety. Please come and have a great time.

How would some American woman know what she is talking about when she has lived in a remote part of Mexico for a few years??

Maybe 300 lbs ago you could consider her opinion.

Just because someone has spent a few years in Mexico hardly qualifies her to comment on issues related to Mexico. She does not speak or understand Spanish.

Judge for yourself
